Dr. Nehme Raad Urology
First of all, there is no relation at all between the PSA level and the urinary symptoms.
PSA is a screening test for prostate cancer that is usually done annually along with a digital rectal examination, from age 50 till 75 (unless there are risk factors for the disease)
Voiding urinary symptoms (previously called obstructive urinary symptoms) are most commonly due to an obstruction of the urethra by an enlarged prostate. The latter is a benign condition that is related to age.
In the vast majority of the cases, this can be solved by a single tablet per day.
But some minor tests are needed before the initiation of the treatment.
