My son's nails falling off (hands and Feet). Why? Notes: he have vitamins & iron deficiencies .no color change, new healthy nail under detached nail
Aug 17, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Iron deficiency does indeed cause abnormalities in the nail bed, resulting in the nails becoming brittle and fragile (they break easily) and develop vertical stripes; the nails also assume a spoon-shaped appearance, but not falling off of nails. The shedding of multiple nail beds in children is usually the sequela of direct trauma, or a systemic infection such as hand-foot-mouth disease or measles infection.
