Usually hair as many things like skin and other body features changes as we age and not the same as childhood ,this is because different causes and factors affecting it

FACTORS may include :
>environmental weather extreme coldness and hotness, dryness of air and humidity ,pollutions, color dyes ,shampoos and chemicals ,conditioning ,hairdryers ,...
>emotional stress ,sleep disorders,anxiety ,nervousness,tiredness ,...
>eating disorders :anorexia ,poor diet ,lack of fruits and vegetables in diet ,lack of vitamins ,proteins and necessary nutritious substances
>lack of vitamin D and being unexposed to sun
>showering more frequently or less frequently
>hormonal causes like ,diabetes ,parathyroid disoreder, hypothyroidism and hyperthroidism ,PCOS polycystic ovary disease ,...
>lack of vitamins and minerals like zinc vitamin B complex, folate, iron, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin E
>if no known cause it might be heredity

AS FOR KERATIN it is is a protein found naturally in the human body that makes up physical structures such as the hair and nails. When these basic structures become weakened and keratin is lost, it is possible to add keratin through cosmetic processes to fill in gaps in the original keratin fibers, providing better strength. Most commonly, people use keratin as a hair straightening treatment. The possible keratin side effects include hair loss, allergic reactions, itching, rashes, irritation of the eyes, lungs, throat, mouth and nose, hair dryness, and cancer. These side effects are not from the keratin itself, but from the processing tools and additives included with the keratin products that help them work.
Some people who use keratin products find that, after a treatment, hair is extremely dry and brittle. In some cases, this leads to breakage and thinning of the hair. This happens because cosmetologists use heat-based styling tools such as flat irons to coax the hair straight. The heat saps the moisture from the strands and causes a loss of elasticity. The problem worsens as an individual continues to style the hair with heat-based tools, unless she is vigilant about using conditioning and moisturizing treatments.
Almost all of the other keratin side effects are due to the formaldehyde the products include

So i think it will not be a good choice to apply keratin in the way the people used to .
Try to have proper healthy diet drink plenty of water ,wash your hair only three times per week ,use mild medical shampoo ,you can take vitamin supplements in case of poor diet ,and if the problem sill check with a dermatologist ,beside other symptoms you may have a diagnose of an underlying cause of your unhealthy hair will be hold and treatment will cure the cause and thus the result will be good .

If you don't wish to use keratin, here are a few useful and practical things you could do to restore the heaheart,,, ,simply give your hair some rest from processes like dyeing, straightening (especially with the curl iron), apply products that protect against UV rays, apply natural oils (based on olive oil, almond oil, macadamia oil, Shea oil) to your scalp while massaging gently , cover your head with the shower hat then wrap it around with a towel soaked in hot water (this will facilitate the penetration of the oils into the deeper scalp layers. Keep it on for 15 minutes then wash it like you usually do . Try to use mild shampoo (like baby shampoo).
