Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Currently there is an abundance of viruses that are circulating in the community. These usually cause high-grade fever, with or without symptoms (like a runny nose, cough, diarrhea). The fever is expected to last between 3-5 days, after which the spikes in temperature should start to space out (meaning that the time period between one episode of high grade fever and another grows longer), then the degree of temperature itself starts to drop. This may or may not be accompanied with a mild rash.
In any case, a direct assessment (by taking a more detailed history of the symptoms plus performing a thorough physical examination) is necessary to make a judgment regarding the nature of the infection (viral versus bacterial). I advise you to follow up with your daughter's pediatrician.
