Dr. Bassem Tanios Nephrology
Your Colleague has Diabetes and is probably on some medications to adjust his blood sugar.

Low sugar in the blood ( hypoglycemia ), like what he is experiencing can be dangerous sometimes, especially if it happens frequently and when he is alone, since very low blood sugar can cause him to lose consciousness, he needs to have some sugar with him at all times like a chocolate bar, in case something like this happens, usually hypoglycemia starts with feeling unwell, tremors and fast heart beats.

the other thing which he is experiencing is hyperglycemia, which is high blood sugar, this will have long-term implications, as uncontrolled diabetes will eventually on the long run affect vessels of heart, brain and kidneys, and sometimes when it's too high can cause also something called a hyperosmolar coma, which will make him real sick.

Your colleague must follow-up with his physician, to adjust his Diabetes mellitus medications, in order to avoid both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
