Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
At 2 months your baby should be receiving the following vaccines: 1st dose of DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis), 1st dose of HiB (hemophilus influenza B), 2nd dose of hepatitis B vaccine, and 1st polio vaccine dose. Two other vaccines not mandated by the Lebanese ministry of health but required by the center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are the PCV (pneumococcal vaccine; against a bacteria that commonly causes otitis, pneumonia and meningitis) and Rotavirus vaccine (causes severe diarrhea in small babies).
These vaccines, mainly the Hib and PCV cause fever, but any temperature that goes above 38.3 degrees Celsius should prompt you to seek medical attention immediately because of your baby’s young age. The local injection area may be painful and endurated (becomes hard) and you can apply warm compresses on it and give Panadol as instructed by your pediatrician. Rotavirus may cause mild diarrhea but that is Ok
