Dr. Rony Shammas Cardiology
This is a very high number and usually indicates an underlying genetic cause that affects the metabolism of triglycerides (TG) . With such high levels there is increased risk of pancreatitis and possibly heart disease. You should see an endocrinologist for a thorough workup including evaluation of your kidney function. Will likely need a combination of the following drugs: Fibrates, Niacin, high dose Omega-3. In addition, you should cut down on carbs, avoid alcohol and lose weight. There are also some medications that
may increase the TG levels. These include thiazide diuretics, steroids, HIV drugs.
