Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Topamax (topiramate) is known to cause a number of adverse effects, some of which affect the nervous system and are mild to moderate in severity and frequently occurred in isolation. Nervous system side effects include:
- somnolence
- dizziness (greater than 25%)
- ataxia (unsteady gait)
- psychomotor (mental) slowing These nervous system adverse reactions do not seem to be dose-related.
Dose-related adverse effects include:
  • fatigue (quite common)
  • nervousness
  • difficulty with concentration or attention
  • psychomotor slowing
  • difficulty with memory
Kindly refer to your treating physician to discuss the possibility of adjusting the dose of Topamax if these side effects are impairing your daily functioning.
