It's been 3 days since my 6 month old baby's poop is hard & greenish black in color. He started eating solids a while ago & didn't have that color before! He had red beetroot so what could cause this?

When babies are weaned to solid food, usually their stools will change in colour, smell and even frequency.
The stools become thicker, darker and more smelly.
This is a normal transition, no need to worry.

Just make sure you always propose water between meals, in addition to his 500ml of milk per day, and try to give him food that softens stools when this happens, like fiber rich cereals, broccoli, plums, pears, peaches and prunes.

The dye in the red beetroot may have caused this unusual stool color. I do not recommend that you feed him such items as dyed foods at this stage; stick to basics: start with rice, then begin adding one vegetable every 3 days, like carrots followed by zucchini, after which you may start introducing fruits like apples and bananas. Avoid the following fruits: strawberry and kiwi (not before the age of one year), and exotic fruits.
