It is safe to put a friendly cat vaccinated in our home with my baby 2 years old?
Mar 8, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Yes it is safe to keep a pet at home as long as its vaccination record is always up to date, and as long as you make sure your toddler, who by now should have received enough vaccination to confer protection against the most common and most dangerous bacterial and viral illnesses, does not come in contact with the cat's litter or litter box. So you need to be very rigorous when cleaning up the cat's litter box, dish/plate you use for water: wear gloves, dispose of the wastes in a bag and seal it, throw it away, remove gloves and disinfect your hands.
