Is it safe to give my 2 year old an omega 3 supplement daily? and for how long?
Feb 20, 2013

Dr. Ivana Dabaj Pediatric Neurology
I don't advise to give Omega 3 for your child.
Caution is warranted for use of omega 3 in young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women. The possible side effects are nausea, diarrhea, loose stools, decreased appetite, constipation, vomiting, and fat in the stools, headache, hemolytic anemia, allergy. It also may increase blood sugar levels, low-density lipoprotein and blood pressure.
There is no proven positive effect of omega 3 for healthy children and the effect on ADHD and autistic children is controversial.
