Is it normal to faint during a nasal endoscopy?
Dec 5, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Yes fainting, or a vasovagal response (which involves alteration in blood pressure control due to stimulation of a nerve known as the vagal nerve) may occur during endoscopy and usually this is the result of direct stimulation of nerve during insertion of the scope, or due to patient or physician anxiety. This likelihood of such response is the highest during the insertion of the scope, but once the scope has gone deep in the nasal cavity, such response rarely, if ever, occurs. In any case, this is transient and easily managed.
