Is it necessary that i visit my doctor to give me birth control pills?
Jul 9, 2014

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
In order to buy regular birth control pills, you do need a doctor’s prescription (so, you can't get any birth control pills over the counter). Most doctors will require a clinical breast and pelvic exam in order to write you this prescription. There is a lot of debate over this practice.
Women still need to talk to their doctors because there are some who are not good candidates for the pill. The doctor will tell you about the side effects ,about the risks ,the right way to take them ,This is why it is important that your doctor does a thorough medical history with you (and that you are honest about your history)
There are lot of women every day who take the pill over the counter and whenever they want but she will put herself on risk if there is any underlying medical problem that inhibit her from taking the pills
If it is the first time to take the pills ,or you hadn't recent gynecologist check up then advisable to take the pill after a doctor check up and prescription
if it is not the first time ,or you have no medical conditions contraindicated in the use of pills or you have done a gynecologist check up and every thing is ok ,then no problem to start with pills .
