Is brown sugar or brown bread less fattening than white sugar and white bread? Please explain
Aug 23, 2013

Dr. Salim Saab Otolaryngology (ENT)
There's no significant fat-related difference between white bread and brown bread or white sugar and brown sugar. The differences would lie in the amounts of vitamins, minerals,...etc.

It is better to eat wholegrain bread and wholefood than processed food. The glycemic index of wholefood and wholegrain is lower than processed. Which means that the type of sugar in white bread and white sugar releases quickly in your metabolism, raising a very specific hormone called insulin. In front of the large amount of present sugar, insulin will transform it into stocking material and that is fat. When eating wholefood, the glycemic index is lower and the consequent raise of insulin is lighter so the fat storage is believed to be lower. Plus wholefood brings fibers that are essential for the good function of your bowels.
