Jul 22, 2014

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
usually form the time we are born till 30 years old your muscles grow larger and stronger. But when a person reaches 30s, you begin to lose muscle mass and function, a condition known as sarcopenia or sarcopenia with aging. People who are physically inactive can lose more muscle mass per decade after age 30 than active people but you will still experience some muscle loss.
the following factors play a role:

-Age-related reduction in nerve cells responsible for sending signals from the brain to the muscles to initiate movement
-A decrease in the concentrations of some hormones, including growth hormone, testosterone, and insulin-like growth factor
-A decrease in the body's ability to synthesize protein
-Inadequate intake of calories and/or protein to sustain muscle mass
(you may be making low caloric diet with lack of proteins ,also when carbohydrates are very low the body will take glucose from stores from glycogen in the muscles-that happen when somebody diet without exercising also)
The treatment for sarcopenia is exercise with good protein balanced diet Specifically, resistance training or strength training
review your medications some may have side effect muscle mass loss.
NOTE :if you have the loss of muscle or called(muscle atrophy )in one part of your body such as your limb or arm or leg where there is difference between the two sides ,you might have other medical condition
check with the doctor for blood tests and images
