I'm forgetting a lot lately! I forget little and major details, and i find it hard to focus. What could be the problem? How can I treat it?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The possible causes for poor memory and inability to concentrate are wide and many, and at times, it simply means that you are overwhelmed with too many tasks to achieve simultaneously.
As such you need to be directly evaluated by a physician who should obtain extensive history, in an attempt to identify any possible factors such as:
- poor sleep,
- severe stress,
- vitamin deficiency, mainly vitamin B12, or
- substances/drugs that may be precipitating this condition)
The doctor should also perform a full physical examination, including:
- a neurologic exam,
- a mental status exam (MSE) that aims to evaluate the mental state of an individual by a combination of observing the
behaviors of the individual and with direct questioning,
- and maybe look for evidence of undiagnosed ADHD/ADD, which people carry on from childhood through adulthood.
The management of your forgetfulness will be determined according to the final result of the complete evaluation.
