Im 4 months pregnant and i eat no sea food at all. Shall i take omega 3 supplemennts for the neuro and embryo development of my baby? And is it true that magnesium makes babies more intelligent?
May 9, 2013

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Omega-3 have been found to be essential for both neurological and early visual development of the baby.Research has confirmed that adding EPA and DHA to the diet of pregnant women has a positive effect on visual and cognitive development of the baby.Studies have also shown that higher consumption of omega-3 may reduce the risk of allergies in infants.
Omega-3 fatty acids have positive effects on the pregnancy itself. Increased intake of EPA and DHA has been shown to prevent preterm labor and delivery, lower the risk of pre-eclampsia and may increase birth weight. Omega-3 deficiency also increases the mother’s risk for depression. This may explain why postpartum mood disorders may become worse and begin earlier with subsequent pregnancies.
so yes it is advisable to add omega 3 to your pregnancy supplements.
as for magnesium the body uses this important mineral to keep bones strong and the heart rhythm steady. It also supports the immune system and helps maintain muscle and nerve function ,in somehow it boosts mental function so keeping on healthy diet that contains all essential minerals will result in healthy baby too. However maternal multivitamins provided by your doctor contains the essential amounts of each vitamin and mineral recommended during your pregnancy
