since your symptoms get relieved after the use of vaseline which is a lubricating or a moisturizer then the most possible cause of your condition was dryness and poor lubrication during the intercourse beside more frequent intercourse
if it was an infection it would had need an antibiotic to be treated
however if you feel you may have std infection it is preferable to do the tests for
since all of std symptoms are wide and some are even asymptomatic (no symptoms ) and some more complicated
