If a female age 54 is having strong pain on the left side of her chest what could it be? The pain is spread from the abdomen to the shoulder.

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Chest pain can be a tricky clinical presentation since it can result from a problem in a number of organs in the chest itself (heart, lungs) and in its vicinity (stomach, intestines). These different underlying causes commonly have very similar manifestations (signs and symptoms), so we need more information to narrow down the possible causes for each particular case, such as when the pain started, if it's continuous or comes and goes, the quality of the pain (burning, pressure-like etc.), if it is associated with shortness of breath or vomiting, and how it is affected by respiration, bowel movement and body posture.
Moreover, the age group of this lady makes things even more complex, especially if she has one or more of the following risk factors for cardiovascular disease: obesity, hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic smoking, dyslipidemia (lipid disease), diabetes, and being on oral contraceptive pills.
The best thing to do is to have this lady receive a thorough check up in the doctor's office.
