If a baby girl was born with no imperforations in the hymen and she had a surgery does this affect her virginity?
Oct 20, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Hymen naturally come in different shapes, and normally the hymen is like a sieve: it has pores to allow for blood flow and secretions to come out.

Girls born with imperforate hymen require a minor surgical correction in order to allow for the menstrual period to occur normally at the time they reach puberty. If the hymen is kept imperforate, the menstrual blood will remain trapped in the abdomen.
