Seretide is made of a combination of a long acting beta blocker, which acts on dilating the airways which get narrowed during asthma attacks in order to provide symptomatic relief, and an inhaled steroid, which aims to treat the inflammation that is the main pathology affecting the airways in asthma. Patients are advised rinse their mouth with water and spit out, and/or brush their teeth after each dose of Seretide in order to prevent the risk of oropharyngeal candidiasis (fungal infection) and hoarseness which are caused by inhaled steroids. Side effects produced my beta blockers, such as tremors and palpitations, are also reported but to a lesser extent.
