Dr. Tarek Gherbal Physical Therapist
Hello there, hope you're having a good post-op recovery.
It all depends on the type of exercise/activity you engage in at the gym; generally, full shoulder Range Of Motion (ROM) and basic muscle strength are the requirements for going back to the gym, these should be covered by your physiotherapy treatment protocol and can take between 2 to 3 months post-op.
Following the GPO principle (Gradual Progressive Overload) is the safest way to go back into exercising and weight lifting, i personally use it every day with my recovering athletes; your physiotherapist can give you pointers on how perform certain exercises, according to your case and progression /time, so you can go back gradually to exercising safely and in a timely manner.
Good luck!
