Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If the hair loss is hereditary, then more invasive interventions may be needed. I advise you to consult a dermatologist on the matter. Hormonal problems, which cause what we call "androgenic hair loss" whereby women experience hair loss around the front area of the scalp, needs to be ruled out. Hormonal causes can be treated with oral medications, but the response rate may vary between different patients. Other causes also include a category of diseases whereby the body's own immune system erroneously attacks the hair bulbs (autoimmune diseases); these are usually rare diseases but are worth looking into especially if you suffer from other chronic conditions that affect the joints, thyroid gland and other organs.
Other more invasive interventions, such as hair implants, should also be discussed.
