Possibly yes, such that if you suffer from allergic rhinitis (allergy in the nose mainly) and/or recurrent sinusitis, this may lead to breathing problems especially during sleep, resulting in a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), during which the affected person experiences nasal blockage, accompanied by mouth breathing and recurrent episodes of cessation of breathing, where there are pauses/interruptions in the respiration for a few seconds. During an obstructive sleep apnea episode, the diaphragm and chest muscles have to make extra effort in order to open the obstructed airway and draw air into the lungs. After the pause in breathing, respiration is resumed with a loud gasp, snort, or body jerk. These episodes affect the amount of oxygen that reaches organs, leading to low oxygen levels in the brain. Chronic OSA is known to be associated with elevated blood pressure; this results from the response of the body to chronic low levels of oxygen in the blood.
