Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Triofan is a local medicine against colds eases nasal mucosa decreases and thins secretions.

It is is used for the treatment of congestive conditions of the nasal mucosa to clear the nose during a cold and in case of rhinitis, sinusitis, inflammation of the respiratory tract ,...
it consists of two ingredients a mycolytic and a DECONGESTANT .

i wrote decongestant in the upper case alphabetic because of its importance in your case .
Unless medical advice, Triofan SHOULD NOT BE USED for more than 5 to 7 days>>> Prolonged use may cause a congestion of the nasal mucosa drug induced, the symptoms are very similar to those of a cold.

This means that the decongestant in the triofan or any other decongestant SHOULD NEVER BEEN USED FOR A MAXIMUM OF 7 DAYS ,and if used more than this period or more frequently you may have a rebound action of congested nose you will feel your nose is always closed ,the medicine triofan if used long enough an more frequently can cause the opposite action desired .

it can reduce nasal congestion but after several days of continuous use, the sprays can cause the nasal linings to swell up again, even when the cold or attack of sinusitis or allergy that originally caused the problem has passed.

This is mentioned for clarification if you are using it like this so pay attention it may be the cause of your medication .if it is the case you must stop the medication it was better to treat the cause rather than using frequent nasal decongestants to treat a symptom(nasal congestion)

Nasal congestion (congested nose occurs when the tissues lining it become swollen. The swelling is due to inflamed blood vessels.)

that what you must do :

>Discontinue the use of triofan or any nasal decongestant in order not to worsen the condition.

>Use saline nasal sprays that do not contain a decongestant to keep your nasal passages moist, and help relieve some of the discomfort of rebound congestion.

>Use over-the-counter pain relievers to help relieve the pressure and pain that rebound congestion can cause such as ibuprofen

>contact ENT doctor first to prescribe a medication to heal the rebound phenomena usually cortisone sprays or other will decrease inflammation and increase healing ,second to diagnose the cause of your nasal congestion and treat it properly .

Common causes of nasal congestion :
-a sinus infection -sinusitis
-or allergy such as hay fever ,rhinitis ,...
-or nasal polyp
-cold and flu make acute congestion

So try the steps ,stop triofan ,you need sinus x ray beside tests to know your nasal congestion cause.
