Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
An elevation in the levels of liver enzymes in the blood is known to result from the following common causes;
1- chronic administration of medications (or dietary supplements) that are known to increase the liver metabolism. A good example would be paracetamol
2- elevated cholesterol (lipids) in the blood
3- chronic or regular excessive alcohol consumption
4- a viral infection
More information about your overall health status, past medical history, and additional blood tests (like the levels of the other liver enzymes) are needed to have a clearer picture of the possible underlying cause.
