Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Tramal (tramadol) and Dolosal (Pethidine) both belong to the same class of medications, known as opioids or opiates, which are similar to morphine, and are used as analgesics to reduce and relieve severe pain. But this is only a temporary solution to abort a migraine attack, because these medications do not target the underlying mechanism of disease of migraine headaches, which is mainly theorized to be caused by sudden constriction (narrowing) of the blood vessels that supply the brain cortex after having been dilated (widened). As such, the maintenance portion of migraines therapy, i.e., the medication that you should be taking regularly on a daily basis in order to prevent the migraine headache from occurring, usually belongs to a different class of medications that targets blood vessels; the abortive treatment, which is the medications used to abort an acute migraine attack, can be analgesics like the medications you are using.
I therefore recommend that you seek medical attention of a specialist (neurologist) to start the right kind of therapy that suits you.
