I have an armpit lump. My surgeon said its only a spencer tail but its big, painful(especially before menstruation) and annoying. Should i check for breast cancer?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Cancerous lymph nodes are typically hard, fixed (they don't slip under the fingers when palpated), non tender (there is no pain upon touching them), and do not vary in size. The fact that the lumps you have are painful and that their size varies with the menstrual cycle is reassuring. Unless you have lumps in your breast and a strong family history of breast cancer, you need not worry about having imaging of your breasts (whether a mammogram or an ultrasound).
