Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
This indicates the presence of an inflammatory process in the rotator cuff (the group of 4 muscles that make up the shoulder girdle).

The rotator cuff is a common source of pain in the shoulder. Pain can be the result of:

  • Tendinitis: tendons can be irritated or damaged.
  • Bursitis: The bursa (the a small fluid-filled sac that acts like a cushion or shock absorbant in joints) can become inflamed.
  • Impingement: upon raising your arm to shoulder height, the space between the acromion (the bone on top of your shoulder) and rotator cuff becomes narrower, which allows the acromion to impinge on the tendon and the bursa, causing irritation and pain.
The use of the arm overhead in activities such as lifting, swimming or tennis may produce this kind of injury.
Have your doctor examine the affected shoulder and manage according to the findings.
