Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD)is a condition that is charecterised by problems with the jaw, jaw joint, and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw

possible causes include:

-Grinding or clenching the teeth especially when sleeping which puts a lot of pressure on the TMJ
-Dislocation of the soft cushion or disc between the ball and socket
-medical conditions such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in the TMJ
-Stress, which can cause a person to tighten facial and jaw muscles or clench the teeth
Many other conditions can cause similar symptoms to TMJ, including a toothache, sinus problems, arthritis, or gum disease have you been seen by a dentist?an x ray will be helpfull to distinguish the cause beside a careful medical history .

treatments for TMD include:
-eating soft and small portion food to decrease the chewing process
-medications to relieve inflammation and pain NSAIDS such as ibuprofen
-Wear a splint or night guard. Splints and night guards are plastic mouthpieces that fit over the upper and lower teeth. They prevent the upper and lower teeth from coming together, lessening the effects of clenching or grinding the teeth
-Don't rest your chin on your hand or hold the telephone between your shoulder and ear. Practice good posture to reduce neck and facial pain.
-if you have other generalised symptoms like joint pain in other joints in your body check with a orthopedic to see if there is amedical condition that may also present with TMJ too .
but above all be patient ,the pain treatment may take time to give effect
