I have a 6 year old girl whose 2 of her fingernails on her left hand are wrinkled. What causes this? What should i do to get her recovered. Thanks.

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
When a fingernail assumes a wavy or wrinkled surface, this is usually the result of repetitive trauma to the nail bed, from biting or harsh trimming of the fingernail. To reverse these changes, the offending agent or habit must be removed. If however you notice that other fingernails are also gaining this appearance, this could indicate iron deficiency anemia (what we call spooning of nails, whereby the nail bed becomes a bit concave),in which case you should have your daughter checked by her pediatrician.
