Dr. Youssef Bassim Orthopedic Surgery
Hanche or hip pain in a 72 years old without history of trauma is most probably due to osteoarthritis. A simple X Ray is needed to document it. A prosthesis ( hip replacement ) is only needed when there is severe osteoarthritis but also accompanied with severe hip pain that prevents normal walking. It important in this age to check for osteoporosis since there is high risk of hip fracture in this age when there is osteoporosis.
