I had fibrocystic cysts in my breasts a few years ago. Does it increase the probability of breast cancer? Should I be worried?
Mar 15, 2013

Dr. Julien Lahoud Obstetrics & Gynecology
Fibrocystic breasts is a benign disease especially in young women and it does NOT increase the risk of having breast cancer.

Its main symptom is pain especially around period, and symptomatical treatment is sufficient (NSAIDS). And symptoms usually disappear after menopause.
Clinical exam and auto palpating are enough to make the diagnosis.

Imagery on mammography and breast ultrasound are classified BIRADS 2 which means it is a benign finding.
The only setback is that sometimes it makes feeling and diagnosing a new lump more difficult.
