Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
ASO is anti streptolysin O, an antibody manufactured by the body against a bacteria called streptococcus. It usually causes infection in the tonsils, sinuses, or pneumonia. Sometimes the infection is complicated by heart valve disease (rheumatic fever) or kidney disease (glomerulonephritis).
ASO value peak in the blood within 6 weeks after infection but may remain elevated for a few months after resolution of the acute illness.
In order to interpret this ASO value, I need to know why you did the test: any swelling in the body, joint redness or swelling, abnormal urine?
