Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
It is very difficult to accurately determine the cause of this ball-like structure in the joint without direct examination. It could be a result of inflammation (tenosynovitis), which is the inflammation of a tendon (tissue that connects muscle to bone) and its sheath, or a ganglion cyst, which is a swelling on top of the joint or the covering of a tendon. Cracking your fingers is unlikely to be the cause, but because you have this small ball, you need to avoid this habit.
