Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If, in parallel with the dryness of the mouth, you are having pain and/or swelling in your neck in addition to difficulty swallowing, these associated findings could indicate the presence of a salivary stone, also known as sialolithiasis. Saliva is rich in calcium. So if calcium accumulates in the salivary ducts, this leads to the formation of crystal-like that block the passages through which the saliva enters the oral cavity.
Other possibilities are that of oral infections, or, if you also have eye dryness and joint pain, this could be a joint disease very much like rheumatoid arthritis.
It is a good idea to get an evaluation in the doctor's office.
