I am taking Primolut Nor for the first time. If I stop it today, will I get my period tomorrow? And is it true that period comes back with much more pain than usual?
Jul 3, 2014

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Primolut N contains norethisterone, which belongs to a group of medicines called progestogens, which are female hormones.
Primolut N can be used in several different circumstances:
to treat irregular, painful or heavy periods
to treat endometriosis (where tissue from the lining of the womb is present in places where it is not normally found)
to treat premenstrual syndrome (also known as premenstrual tension, PMS or PMT)
to delay periods
The number of tablets that you need to take and the number of days per month when you need to take them will depend on why the doctor has prescribed Primolut N. A common dosage would be 2-3 tablets each day. For some conditions Primolut N has to be taken every day, but this is not always the case, when stopped you may have your period 2-3 days after or in the near coming days.
Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Nausea.
Headache/migraine.
Changes in menstrual bleeding, eg irregular bleeding or sometimes stopping of bleeding.
Change in sex drive.
Bloating.
Retention of water in the body tissues (fluid retention).
Breast discomfort.
Dizziness.
Depressed mood.
Weight gain.
Skin reactions such as rash and itching.
Hair loss (alopecia).
Excessive hair growth (hirsutism).
Sleepiness.
Difficulty sleeping (insomnia).
Disturbance in liver function.
So whether the period will be with more pain or not is your body itslef and not the medicine itself.
