I am getting better with time. Once it is fully healed, does this mean I still have the "disease" in a dormant stage or am I completely healed? Should I take any medication during or after, if ncssry?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If the oral lesion you have is due to herpes infectio, tthen the answer is yes, the virus will remain in a dormant state in structures called ganglia, which are a collection of nerve cells grouped together. Activation of the virus occurs when the body is subject to stress (physical or psychological). Carrying the virus in your ganglia does not mean you can transmit the infection to others ; only if you have an active infection will it become contagious.
Herpes virus is transmitted by close personal contact, and infection occurs via inoculation of virus into mucosal surfaces (eg, oropharynx, cervix, conjunctiva) or through small cracks in the skin.
