How to cure recurrent candida? How can I prevent it if I need to take antibiotics?
Feb 18, 2013

Dr. Ahmad Ghannoum Gastroenterology
To Candida, recommended avoiding antibiotics, birth control pills, and foods that are high in sugar or yeast, ostensibly to "eliminate excess yeast" in the body. However, there is little clinically valid evidence that these "Candida cleanse" treatments treat intestinal candidiasis effectively. The probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii has been shown to diminish levels of intestinal Candida in mice. This is therefore one of the specific probiotic strains often recommended by alternative medicine practitioners alongside a more general probiotic, for anyone on a "Candida cleanse" or "Candida diet".

Dr. Karim Nawfal Obstetrics & Gynecology
Candidal infection of the female genital tract is very common and has different causes.
In cases of recurrent candidal infection you should be tested for diabetes first and then you can be treated with antifungal medications.
Using antibiotics can change the normal bacterial flora of the vagina and cause candidal infection as a result. In this case taking antifungal medication at the same time can prevent it.
