How much would it cost if I wanted to remove my breasts?
Sep 13, 2014

Dr. Michel Moutran Plastic Surgery
Having some breast in male patient is a condition called gynecomastia. It can be due to some hormonal disorders or to an overweight. Some blood tests should be conducted to rule out any hormonal disorder and usually and ultrasound screening done. If no reason is found then it is safe to remove the gynecomastia. Depending on the presentation assisted liposuction (vibration, laser or ultra sound) can be offered to remove the breast tissue without major scar. If the areola is protruding or if you have a glandular component associated to fat in your breast, then liposuction is not enough and open removal of the residual breast tissue must be conducted.
This surgery is considered to be an aesthetic one and is not covered routinely by the insurance. The price depends on the hospital/operating room/anesthesia fees and this can vary widely from a hospital to another.
Before deciding to remove your breast be sure that the correct tests have been done and always seek the advice of a board certified plastic surgeon.
