How can we reduce cramping?
Jan 31, 2013

Dr. Karim Farah Pulmonology
muscle cramps has several causes. but mostly are due to electrolytes imbalance such as magnesium and calcium and sometimes potassium. the best way is to keep yourself well hydrated and well nourished with full supplements such as calcium and magnesium supplement.
if cramping occurs during the exercise the best way to prevent it is to do good warm ups and stretching before starting the exercise in addition to being well hydrated. and stretching the muscle when the cramps occurs helps to relief the cramp.
hyperventilation(breathing very fast like in panic attack) causes a status of severe alkalosis which make the calcium in the serum biund to albumin (a protein) and lowers the free calcium giving the muscles in the body the feeling of having very low free calcium causing tetanus, numbness and spasm of the arms and fingers. the best way to treat it is to ask the person to breath in and out of a bag well sealed around his/her mouth.
