Persistent perturbation in the menstrual cycle warrants an evaluation by a gynecologist, to make sure that you do not have anovulatory cycles (menstrual cycles whereby there is bleeding but no production of an ovule). A detailed history of the menstrual cycle since it started, change in weight, dietary habits, exercise, stress and others must be investigated. A thorough physical examination is also necessary to rule out the presence of signs of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), whereby you develop benign cysts on the ovaries which cause this variation in the menstrual cycle.
