Overprocessing the hair is by far the most common cause of physical hair damage. Perming, straightening, bleaching, and dyeing the hair all involve harsh chemicals that can significantly affect the integrity of hair fiber. If done too frequently or inappropriately, it can result in irreversible hair damage.
The hair cuticle is composed of a tough outer layer of dead and highly keratinized cells in an overlapping scales pattern; it serves as a protective for the softer inner cortex. Too much processing will harm these overlapping scales, so they "flake up". As such, when you have your hair processed with chemicals or with hot air/metal, and if those are applied for too long high concentration, or too frequently, they will be in direct contact with the cuticle. Thus the hair will become dull, dry, and frizzy. Chemicals in shampoos, water, and polluted air, combined with UV light exposure, can worsen the situation. Eventually, the hair may become so weak that it splits or breaks off completely, usually at the end of the hair fiber.
Another very common hair disorder is trichorrhexis nodosa (also called trichonodosis), in which the hair fiber has zones of fraying due to an absent cuticle.
It can be hereditary, or acquired (excessive hair styling and processing).
In your case, low RBC count, which signifies anemia, is a major factor, because it could be iron-deficiency anemia, and one of the earliest signs of it is dry brittle hair and dry skin. So this should be taken care of. Other possibilities include thyroid gland dysfunction and zinc deficiency. Blood tests will determine if you have those - in which case you need to receive treatment.
