Endocrine disease can affect the menstrual period?
Oct 7, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Yes, certainly. Endocrine diseases, such as disease of the thyroid gland (excessive activity or hyperthyroidism, or poor activity or hypothyroidism), metabolic syndrome (a disease that causes multiple health problems), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), affect the menstrual period, causing it to become either longer or shorter than expected, or cause it to occur irregularly (meaning, it occurs more or less frequently than normal).
