Peanut butter will not improve your lipids. Nuts ( and not peanut butter) may have a very modest positive impact on cholesterol. In general , medicines that increase HDL have not been shown to improve survival or lower risk of stroke and heart attack. Instead the focus should be on lowering the LDL with statin therapy. There are calculators available on line that will help you and your doctor decide if you should be started on a statin ( https://my.americanheart.org/professional/StatementsGuidelines/PreventionGuidelines/Prevention-Guidelines_UCM_457698_SubHomePage.jsp#mainContent) . Regular exercise and smoking cessation will help increase HDL too.
