It depends on your slipped disc problem and its site beside its severity and if you have any other back problem ,but in some cases you can you may consider an epidural even though you have a slipped disc .
The most common problems with epidural a doctor face are bulging or herniated discs, sciatica, scoliosis, and chronic low back pain.BUT It is usually OK to try an epidural with these conditions.
In some cases such as scoliosis the epidural might be more difficult to place and might not work evenly. Since stress may be placed on your back during childbirth it is common for your back pain to be worse afterwards whether or not you have an epidural.
In fact epidurals are used to inject medications into the back to treat various back problems in both men and women.
There are some problems that may make your risk from epidurals too great. Some of these are: previous low back surgery, spina bifida, infections in the low back area, or bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand's disease or hemophilia.
I advise you to talk to the anesthesiologist before you are scheduled to deliver call the surgery scheduling secretary and schedule an appointment to consult with an anesthesiologist and check in your case the possibility after giving him the details on your case and images if presented or the report of the slipped disc .
he will see the site of the disc and severity and he may consider epidural in another place up or down the vertebra during the delivery .
So if you wish to ,speak to the anesthesiologist first before delivery ,at time of delivery they may refuse if they don't know your condition and there will be no time to discuss .
