Does a tooth implant hurt during and after surgery? How long will the implant remain?
Jun 5, 2014

Dr. Salim Saab Otolaryngology (ENT)
Tooth implants usually hurt, not too much though. The implant remains 25 years and more.

Honestly dental implants are almost painless if they are done by a specialist of course. Of course you don't feel a thing during the surgery. After the surgery, ibuprofen pills will do the job in case of pain. Dental implants techniques have evolved so much. Implants will remain all your life if you do regular checkups every 6 months.

Implant Surgery do not hurt during surgery at all, and if the surgery is done by a specialist, should not hurt after, this is because a specialist can limit the size of the wound to the minimum.
Usually, I prescribe a couple of pain killer and patients rarely use them.
If a good implant is used, an implant should stay all your life, don't ask for cheap implants, there are no studies about how much they remain functional.

Nowadays,no dental procedure should hurt at all during the process. Pain is well managed and under control. And after the surgery, your dentist will recommend antibiotics and pain killers to lessen post surgical discomfort.

My only recommendation would be to always seek a specialist in the field and not a general dental surgeon
