Do I need to give my baby DHA drops supplements? He's 9 months old now. I am a bit worried that he might not get DHA as his doctor recommended that we don't feed him fish until his 1st birthday.

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
DHA (docosahexanoic acid) has been shown to play important roles in the development of the nervous system and vision in infants, especially in the first 6 months of life. DHA is supplied in sufficient amounts in breast milk,so breast fed infants get their need of DHA from nursing. If you are not breast feeding your child, you may opt to use a milk formula that is fortified with DHA, or use DHA-fortified vitamin drops. In any case, this is optional and not mandatory because there is no full proof evidence that if you do not supply the milk with DHA that this would result in damage to the brain and vision development of your child. Yet we still do recommend it.
