Can we do the gastric sleeve operation more than once?
Aug 20, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
As a rule, sleeve gastrectomy revisions or re-dos are performed because of inadequate weight loss or weight regain. When patients who have already undergone gastric sleeve lose their dietary restrictions, it's usually because the banana shaped stomach has dilated (enlarged). Redoing the sleeve gastrectomy with excision of more of the stomach can be attempted but is not advised because its likelihood of success is slim. The two recommended revisions are conversion to a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or performing a duodenal switch.
