Can a person with HIV and undetectable status donate his organs?
Jan 22, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
No they should not donate organs, but suppose they want to, the process of organ donation is a very rigorous one, so the donor must fill a detailed questionnaire including travel to areas endemic for infectious diseases and sexual activity, and based upon the answers he/she will be qualified as eligible to donate or not. Additionally, the donated organ is subjected to a series of testing to make sure it does not carry any transmissible diseases, including of course HIV.
